Distance between vectors: linear algebra practice
Calculate distances between coordinate points by first finding their directed difference. These problems include two, three and four dimensions, exact roots and an unknown-coordinate constraint. You will also diagnose sign mistakes and test whether a claimed property is about displacement or about distance.
What you will practise
- Calculate point-to-point distance from a displacement norm
- Use symmetry and translation invariance to check a calculation
- Solve distance constraints while distinguishing vector and scalar outputs
How to use this questionset
Prerequisites: Directed subtraction and Euclidean norms. The questions progress from direct interpretation to application and reasoning. Work out an answer before comparing the choices; for multi-select questions, evaluate every statement independently. Worked explanations show the reasoning and address relevant misconceptions, so an incorrect attempt can guide your next review.
Distances are nonnegative scalars. Reversing a displacement changes its sign but does not change its norm. This point-to-point method prepares you for distances to lines and planes using shortest displacements. This microlearning belongs to Module 1, Vectors and Geometry, in the Complete Linear Algebra Course.
