π Overview & Study Guide
The row picture of a linear system
Understand a system of linear equations as a collection of geometric constraints. In this microlearning from Module 2, Chapter 1 of the Complete Linear Algebra Course, you connect individual equations with lines or planes and interpret a solution as a point shared by every equation-defined set.
What you will practise
- Test candidate points by substitution into all equations.
- Read vertical and horizontal lines and recognize equations that describe the same line.
- Distinguish a common intersection from the union of separate solution sets.
- Connect a line's coefficients with a normal vector using the dot product.
- Interpret an equation in three unknowns, including an unrestricted coordinate.
- Decide how an added equation affects an existing intersection and what a limited graph window can establish.
The practice develops from coordinate checks to spatial interpretation and explanations of redundant or incompatible constraints. Both single-select and multi-select questions are included, with feedback explaining why a point or geometric claim does or does not satisfy the full system.
Preparation and study value
Review linear equations, ordered pairs and triples, elementary substitution, and perpendicularity through dot products. This set supplies the geometric foundation for comparing row and column pictures and for studying elimination in the next chapter. Every problem includes enough algebraic or verbal information to work without an external diagram.
