π Overview & Study Guide
Composition of functions and successive processes
Explore function composition as an input-output chain. One function acts first, and its output becomes the input to the next. This precalculus practice set develops that meaning through tables, coordinate graphs, algebraic formulas and contextual models.
Start with the order of the composition symbol, then evaluate nested rules and substitute an entire expression into an outer formula. Later items compare two process orders, trace three successive operations and solve an equation involving a composite output. A finite-domain example checks whether an intermediate value is actually permitted.
Contexts include a time-dependent temperature model and a discount followed or preceded by a fixed charge. These help connect the order of symbols with the order of real operations. Graphical and tabular questions require reading one output before moving to the other function, rather than multiplying values at a shared input.
Review function notation, table lookup and basic algebra before beginning. Show the intermediate value on scratch paper and track its meaning or units. Both single-select and multiselect questions include worked explanations. The set distinguishes general noncommutativity from examples in which two particular functions do commute, and treats grouping separately from order. Systematic domain analysis is the focus of the next set.
